What are coping stones and how are they used?
Coping stones are protective caps fitted to the tops of walls and pillars to prevent rainwater from seeping into the structure. By directing water away, they help prevent damp, frost damage and mortar erosion – protecting your walls and keeping them looking their best. As well as their practical role, coping stones give garden structures and features a neat, professional finish.
Made from durable natural stone, our copings are built to withstand the changing seasons and are used for a wide range of applications, including:
- Wall and parapet capping – top off walls and channel rainwater away from masonry
- Pillar and pier caps – give gate posts and garden pillars a smart, balanced look
- Steps and stair treads – durable, slip-resistant surfaces with smooth bullnose edges
- Pool and pond edging – safe, stylish pool copings to protect and enhance surrounds
What types of coping stones are available?
At Love Stone, we supply limestone and sandstone coping stones in a variety of shades to suit both traditional and modern homes. Our sandstone copings are strong and full of natural character, with a gently riven texture. Popular colours include Raj Green, with its soft mix of browns and greens and Kandla Grey for a cooler, contemporary look. Alternatively, Rippon Buff blends lighter gold tones to complement lighter paving and brighten your outdoor space.
If you’re seeking a smoother, sophisticated finish, we’d recommend exploring our limestone coping stones. Options include deep, elegant Black Limestone through to the soft, warm tones of modern Sinai Pearl and Sinai Sand styles. Whichever you prefer, all copings are precision cut for a flawless fit and calibrated for consistency, with tumbled, honed or leathered finishes.

FAQs
What types of coping stones do you sell?
Our standard wall coping stones are straight-cut on three sides with a bullnose front edge for a smooth, sleek finish. If you’d like a bullnose on both long edges, or need a particular edge profile, we can provide this through our bespoke masonry service. We also supply square pier caps for posts and gate pillars, available in various sizes to complement your wall design.
Coping stones are also perfect for steps and swimming pool edging. For pool surrounds, we can produce corner or curved copings to order, while standard pool edges feature a bullnose finish for comfort and safety underfoot. The same hardwearing, slip-resistant surface makes these stones ideal for garden steps or stair treads, which we can cut to your required size.
Do you offer bespoke coping stones?
Yes. Our bespoke stone masonry service allows you to order coping stones in custom sizes, shapes and finishes. We can create crowned copings with angled tops for better water runoff, corner and curved stones for pools or ponds, and oversized pieces for wider walls. We can also produce decorative profiles or match existing designs, if standard bullnose edges don’t work for you. Feel free to contact our team to discuss your project and see how we can help.
Additionally, if you need a specific stone type, colour or size that’s not currently listed, we can usually source it to order. We can also colour-match your wall copings to pre-existing natural stone paving for a cohesive look. Please email any queries to: info@lovestoneuk.com.
Do coping stones need to be sealed?
Sealing isn’t essential, but it is strongly recommended for sandstone and limestone products as it will increase their lifespan. A breathable sealant will help protect against staining and water ingress while keeping the stone’s colour looking fresh. Love Stone stocks a professional range of Pro-Joint sealants, available in both natural and colour-enhancing finishes. Our team can advise on the best product for your chosen stone and how to apply it for best results.
Do you deliver wall copings and pool edging?
Yes. We offer nationwide delivery on all coping stones and paving supplies via our trusted haulage partners. Orders are delivered on palletised loads and offloaded to kerbside or a suitable hard-standing area. Delivery costs are calculated by weight and distance, with quotes provided upfront when ordering.
