What limestone paving colours do you offer?
- Kota Purbeck (Kota Yellow) – a warm blend of yellow, cream, brown and grey tones. Quarried in India, this classic shade gives patios and paths a rustic feel.
- Pearl River (Kurnool Grey) – a versatile mid-grey limestone with cool blue undertones. Also from India, it offers a clean, modern look to suit various settings.
- Sinai Pearl – a soft, creamy yellow limestone sourced from Egypt. Light and neutral, it works well in both classic and contemporary gardens.
- Sinai Sand – a pale, sand-toned limestone from Egypt. This subtle shade is a great choice for creating a minimalistic finish or Mediterranean-style patio.
What finishes are available?
Limestone is naturally coarse and uneven in raw form, so it’s never sold in a natural split finish like sandstone. Instead, limestone paving slabs are processed for a more refined finish, with two main options:
- Tumbled and honed – tumbling softens the stone’s edges and gives it a subtly weathered appearance, while honing polishes the surface to smooth it. This combination offers the best of both worlds: a contemporary finish with character.
- Etched or leathered – both provide a distinctive matte finish with good grip underfoot. Etched limestone has a muted surface finish, ideal for understated outdoor spaces. While leathered stone is subtly textured for a more slip-resistant tactile finish.
We can also supply complementary limestone cobbles and edging pavers. Choose from a range of coordinating or contrasting colours to give your patio or path clean and tidy edges.
FAQs
Is limestone good for patios?
Yes, limestone is a great choice for patios, as it offers a more consistent surface than other riven natural stones. Limestone patios boast a smooth, flat surface that it ideal for garden furniture and outdoor dining sets. Meanwhile, its natural density ensures long-term durability and it also stays cooler underfoot in hot weather than other materials too. This, along with its slip-resistance, make it a great choice for households with children, pets and outdoor pools.
Limestone also holds its colour well, and comes in shades to suit both modern and traditional garden designs. With occasional sealing and routine cleaning, it should remain attractive and functional for years to come.
Do I need to seal my limestone paving?
While limestone slabs are less porous than sandstone, we’d still strongly recommend sealing them. A high-quality penetrating sealant will protect your limestone patio or path against moisture ingress, algae growth and frost damage. Your slabs will also absorb less dirt to keep them cleaner for longer and the sealant will prevent spills turning into stains. For example, oil and grease in kitchens and barbecue areas.
At Love Stone, we can supply invisible or colour-enhancing sealants to your limestone’s lifespan without leaving a slippy film or altering its texture.
Can limestone paving slabs be used indoors?
Yes, limestone slabs are a popular choice for kitchens and conservatories, as well as patios and other outdoor applications. Our Sinai limestone can be supplied in a slightly thinner 15mm thickness specifically for interior use. This can then be paired with the more robust 20mm outdoor version for a seamless transition between your indoor and outdoor living spaces. Or you can simply use 20mm limestone paving throughout – it’s entirely up to you!
Where do your limestone products come from?
All our limestone is sourced direct from long-established quarries in India and Egypt. This direct supply chain means we can offer excellent quality and value across the board. Each batch is calibrated for consistency and carefully inspected before it reaches our yard.
Indian limestones like Kota Yellow and Kurnool Grey are known for their strength and subtle colour variation. Whilst Egyptian limestone slabs like Sinai Pearl and Sand offer a lighter, more refined appearance. And both varieties are some of the toughest limestone on the market.
Can limestone paving be cut or customised?
Limestone is a dense but workable stone that can be cut using the right tools. We supply cutting discs suitable for natural stone and can offer advice if you plan to cut slabs yourself.
For more tailored designs, we offer a bespoke cutting service by special order. Options include bullnose edging – a smooth, rounded finish for steps, pool surrounds and wall copings. This not only removes sharp corners, but also creates a smoother transitional between raised areas. Additionally, we can create custom curved designs and cut-outs as needed – just ask!
